Awoken
Awoken are a playable species in Destiny. They are described by Bungie as exotic, beautiful, and mysterious and are inspired by elves, vampires, ghosts, and angels. They are one of the three playable Guardian races to choose from along with Human and Exo. When Oryx and his fleet attacked the system the Awoken lost a fourth of their military forces during the battle, as well as many of their leaders, including their Queen Mira Sov who is considered MIA. These losses were calculated by the Awoken, however, and ultimately their attack served its purpose, which was to force the Taken King and the remainder of his fleet to remain trapped in the rings of Saturn. This gave the guardians time to board his dreadnought, disable its weapon systems and capture the ship, which led directly to Oryx being slain.
Background
The Awoken are descendants of who, during the Collapse, tried to run to the far edges of known space to escape . Something happened to them out on the edge of the deep Black, and they were forever changed. Today many Awoken live in the Reef, aloof and mysterious, but others returned to Earth, where their descendants now fight for the City.
